A Study of the Correlation between Gravidas¢¥ Relationship with Mother and with Husband and Knowledge of Infant Care Activity in Third-trimester


Abstract
This descriptive study was undertaken to examine the correlation between gravidas¢¥ relationship with mother and with husband and knowledge of infant care activity in thridtrimester.
The subjects of this study consisted of 159 gravida visited 2 general hospitals, 2 OB/GY clinics and 2 midwives¢¥ clinics in J city for antenatal care.
The data were collected from December i to 30, 1989. The instrument used for this study was dimension of relationship with mother and husband within the prenatal selfevaluation questionnaire lI developed by lederman, et al., (1979), which was translated into Korean and modified by investigator. The instrument developed by Lee (1990) was used to measure the degree of gravidas¢¥s knowledge of infant care activity.
Data were analyzed by mean, t-test & ANOVA and Pearson Correlation with SPSS program.
The results of this study was summarized as follows:
1. The characteristics of the subiect was as follows:
Age of the subjects was 26 ~ 30 years (61.6 %), education of the subjects was graduation of high school (56.0 %) and gestation of the subjects was the thirty-seventh or more weeks (43.4 %).
2. The degree of gravidas¢¥ knowledge of infant care activity was 36.75, the degree of gravidas¢¥ knoweldge of physical care activity was 16.70, and the degree of gravidas¢¥ knowledge of psychosocial care activity was 20.05.
3. The mean score of the relationship with mother was 33.61 and the mean score of the relationship with husband was 33.58.
4. There was not significant difference in the relationship with mother according to the general characteristics.
5. There was significant difference in the relationship with husband according to the husband¢¥s occupation and family type.
6. There was no correlation between gravidas¢¥ relationship with mother and with husband and knowledge of infant care activity.
From these results, it may be concluded. Gravidas¢¥ acquisition of knowledge about
infant care activity in thrid-trimester may not be influenced by gravidas¢¥ relationship with mother and husband.
Further study is necessary to identify of this conclusion.
